U.S. equities finished the quarter with modest gains but only after taking investors on a bumpy journey as markets digested an onslaught of headlines from lingering concerns over the trade war with China to impeachment probes for President Trump. When the dust settled, the S&P 500 Index gained 1.7% for the quarter and closed just shy of all-time highs put in on July 26th. On a year to date basis investors have enjoyed an extraordinary year so far with broader U.S. equities gaining over 20% and most risk assets yielding double-digit results as well.
